In short

Some known problems

The 2024 Kia Telluride has some known problems, mainly because two park-outside recalls cover a fire risk from the front power seat motor. NHTSA has 219 owner complaints, and 9 report a crash, fire, injury or death. The most common are a blank instrument cluster, cracking windshields and loose window trim. It has 5 recalls.

Reliability

How Reliable Is the 2024 Kia Telluride?

The 2024 Kia Telluride is listed as having some known problems, and the reason is official rather than based on the volume of complaints. Two recalls tell owners to park outside and away from structures because the front power seat motor may overheat and cause a fire while parked or driving. The second recall, 26V430000, says the problem can also come from an improper repair under the first, 24V407000. For a buyer, that means the seat recall is the first thing to confirm, and a completed first repair is not the end of the story.

Owner complaints paint a different picture from the recalls. The biggest groups are a blank instrument cluster, windshields that crack easily and window trim that comes off. The cluster is the most serious of the three. Owners describe the screen going black with no speed or fuel shown, and some also lost blind spot warnings. The windshield and trim complaints are mostly annoyances, though owners mention reduced visibility from a long crack and sharp metal where trim has come away. Of the 219 complaints, 9 mention a crash, fire, injury or death, and none mention a death.

Recalls only partly line up with these complaints. The window trim is the one problem with a matching recall: 25V494000 says the door belt molding trim can delaminate and detach, and dealers will inspect and replace it free of charge. Owners still report trim coming off, and the repair reports lean toward fixes that were partial or did not hold. This model year has no recall for the blank instrument cluster or the cracking windshield. The few repair reports for the cluster are mixed, with one owner saying it still happened after three trips to service. Other recalls cover a driveshaft that may not be fully engaged, which can let the vehicle roll away in park, and valve springs that may break, which can cause a loss of drive power. The valve spring recall covers a small number of vehicles.

Mileage tells you little here, because these are very new vehicles. Among the 23 complaints that give a mileage, the median is about 8,400 miles and most are under 25,000 miles. Problems for the cluster, windshield and trim have too few mileage reports to say when they appear. Some owners describe windshield cracks in the first weeks of ownership, and trim problems within months. A low odometer reading on a used 2024 Telluride is therefore no guarantee that these problems have not already happened or been repaired.

If you are shopping for one, confirm every recall is closed, test the cluster and driver assists, and inspect the glass and window trim. Complaint counts show what owners chose to report, not how many vehicles are affected, and they cannot show how a particular vehicle was maintained or repaired. A service history that shows the recall work, including the seat motor repair, is the best evidence you can ask for.

Buying one

Should you buy a used 2024 Kia Telluride?

What to check before you buy, based on the complaint and recall data.

Before you buy, ask the seller for proof that recalls 24V407000 and 26V430000 (the seat motor fire risk) have been completed, and check the other three recalls too. Test the instrument cluster and the blind spot warnings on a drive, and look at the trim around all four side windows and the condition of the windshield. Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup on the day you buy.

  1. 1Run the VIN for open recalls. NHTSA lists 5 recalls, and 2 carry a do-not-drive or park-outside warning (26V430000, 24V407000). Check at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
  2. 2Check for blank instrument cluster. The most common complaint, in about 1 in 5 owner complaints.
  3. 3Get a pre-purchase inspection. An independent mechanic can spot leaks, stored fault codes and accident repairs that a test drive misses.

Owning one

If you already own one

Find your symptom, see when problems tend to show up, and check which recalls apply.

Until the seat motor recall repair is done, park outside and away from buildings, as the recall advises. If the instrument cluster goes blank, you lose the speedometer and fuel level, so pull over safely and restart the car, and report a repeat to a dealer. Check that the driveshaft recall (24V214000) was done, and use the emergency parking brake when you leave the car until it is. Have any detached window trim looked at, since owners describe jagged metal edges.

FAQ

2024 Kia Telluride questions

Is the 2024 Kia Telluride reliable?

The 2024 Kia Telluride has some known problems, mainly because two park-outside recalls, 24V407000 and 26V430000, cover a fire risk from the front power seat motor. NHTSA has 219 owner complaints, and the most common are a blank instrument cluster, cracking windshields and loose window trim.

What are the most common 2024 Kia Telluride problems?

The most common are a blank instrument cluster (41 complaints, about 1 in 5 owner complaints), windshields that crack easily (38 complaints, about 1 in 6) and window trim coming off (20 complaints, about 1 in 11). The blank cluster is the serious one, while the windshield and trim problems are minor.

How many recalls does the 2024 Kia Telluride have?

The 2024 Kia Telluride has 5 recalls, and two tell owners to park outside and away from structures: 24V407000 and 26V430000, for a front power seat motor that may overheat and cause a fire while parked or driving. The others cover the door belt molding trim (25V494000), the driveshaft (24V214000) and the engine valve springs (24V077000). Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Does the 2024 Kia Telluride have instrument cluster problems?

Yes. A blank instrument cluster is the most common complaint, with 41 of 219, and it is listed as serious. The screen goes black with no speed, fuel level or gear position, often while driving or at start-up, and some owners also lose blind spot warnings. No recall covers it for this model year, and one owner said it still happened after 3 service visits.

Does the 2024 Kia Telluride have window trim problems?

Yes. Owners report trim around the side windows coming off, in 20 complaints, sometimes on all four doors and leaving jagged metal exposed. Recall 25V494000 says the door belt molding trim can delaminate and detach, and dealers will inspect and replace it free of charge. Repairs owners have reported so far were partial or did not hold.

What should I check before buying a 2024 Kia Telluride?

Ask for proof that recalls 24V407000 and 26V430000, the seat motor fire risk, were completed, and check the other three recalls too. Test the instrument cluster and blind spot warnings on a drive, and inspect the trim around all four side windows and the windshield. Run the VIN through nhtsa.gov/recalls on the day you buy.

Which Kia Telluride years should you avoid?

Avoid the 2025 Kia Telluride: owner complaints for that year show serious known problems. For the 2020–2024, make sure the recall repairs were done: an urgent recall matters more than their complaint pattern. The 2027 has too few complaints to judge. Every model year is compared on the Kia Telluride years-to-avoid page.

Methodology

How we researched this

  • Complaints. NHTSA's owner complaint file, counted as unique complaint numbers for make KIA, model TELLURIDE, model year 2024. Data through Oct 4, 2026.
  • Verdict. Judged from this model year's own complaints, not against other models, using shares rather than counts. Serious known problems: one serious problem (transmission, engine or stalling, steering, brakes, airbags, fire, fuel leaks) is in a quarter or more of complaints; or a smaller but clear cluster comes with an unusual share of crash, fire, injury or loss-of-power reports or early failures; or an urgent recall or NHTSA investigation matches a top complaint. Some known problems: one of those signals on its own. No pattern of serious problems: none of them; this doesn't mean the vehicle is trouble-free. Too few complaints to judge: under 50 complaints. Why this verdict: A park-outside recall (24V407000) for a fire risk in the seats, matching a top complaint; A park-outside recall (26V430000) for a fire risk in the seats, matching a top complaint.
  • No grade or class ranking. Raw complaint counts favor models that sell fewer cars, so we don't score or rank this vehicle against other models until we can adjust for sales.
  • Trouble spots and history. Complaints grouped by the part owners chose when filing. The history grid counts complaints filed in each model year's first 3 years so older and newer years compare fairly; years with fewer than 3 complete years are marked too new.
  • Named problems. Every one of the 219 complaints was researched and classified by its problems, severity, symptoms, repairs and any cost the owner mentions; the counts, costs and fix rates on this page are tallies of those classifications. Quotes are verbatim excerpts, checked against the original text. Engines are decoded from partial VINs with NHTSA's vPIC service.
  • Repair costs and fix rates. Shown only when at least 10 owners report a repair cost, or at least 10 complaints describe whether a repair worked.
  • Not adjusted for sales. Not affiliated with NHTSA. Page updated Nov 5, 2026.
